the perfect plate of rice
Rice, probably the most basic thing you can cook. Despite that, it's the most common main food served in Malaysia and Indonesia, usually with some sort of side dish such as curry or ayam masak lemak. It can also be used in other recipes such as nasi lemak.

But you need to know the proper way to cook rice, or else you might end up with super squishy, porridge-like rice or undercooked crunchy rice that you'd need more time to cook. Both of which are not good for your body.

In this recipe I will teach you how to cook the perfect pot of rice in a rice cooker on your first try. And no, you do not need to measure it with your finger.

Things you Need

  • Tap water
  • Plain rice
  • Rice cooker
  • Rice cup

How to Cook Rice

Firstly, think about how much  rice you want to cook. I usually cook four cups as I need to feed my family of five. Scoop four cups of rice into the rice pot using the rice cup.

Them you need to wash the rice. Fill up the rice pot with water just over the rice and begin moving the rice around using your hand. Poor out the water and then repeat it two more times. Pick out any beetles or ants that might be in the rice. Pour out any leftover water.

Pour three rice cups worth of water into the rice pot. The fourth one should be just a little under, roughly 1 inch.

Wipe the rice pot in case it get wet and cook it in the rice cooker.

The rice cooker might stop  sometimes when its not ready, just flip the button on again if this happens.

After about 30 minutes, its ready. Steamy hot, perfectly cooked rice. Not too squishy.

Congratulations! Now you can eat it with other condiments, or use the rice in other recipes!
